Isn't it ironic how the universe determines your destiny? How it speaks to you through your insecurities, doubts, and desires? Drea Jackson is a 24 year old woman who is becoming everything she never thought she would be.
Every since her birth on June 25, 1992 in the midst of historical hurricane Andrew in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she has raged with an inner force that has lead her to her passion as a public figure through the likes of television and entertainment media. Spelman College became one of the most pivotal moments in her journey when she was introduced to thousands of other African American women that shared that same raging force. Within this environment Drea was challenged to embrace her inner voice and use it to make a difference on campus and in turn, society.
After graduating with a BA in Economics in May of 2014 she embarked on the typical post grad journey working as a digital advertising professional. She began part time work as a waitress in downtown Atlanta to make extra money on the side. It was during that experience where Drea met face to face with her destiny. Before Spelman, she never thought she was charismatic enough, assertive enough, or relatable enough to work as a waitress. However, her success in hospitality blossomed because there was something about her energy that enlightened those in her presence and made them feel comfortable around her.
Drea recognizes that challenging your insecurities and being unapologetically true to to yourself is beyond liberating and she wants to inspire others to take control of their inner force. As a TV Host and Correspondent she will use journalism as a vessel to enlighten others with her spirit to provoke positive change in the world. Drea draws influence from her Family and legendary figures such as Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama.
Beyond being an entertainment and pop culture enthusiast she is also a marketing professional and advocate for black owned businesses, health/beauty empowerment, and positive media. Drea currently resides in Atlanta and is a contributing correspondent for entertainment platforms- Sweet Candor TV, RnBuntapped, and ATL Live on the Park.
3 Tips for success
- Productivity & Discipline:
Focus drives execution, consistent execution constructs discipline. In a world where there is constant distraction one must persevere and continue to complete tasks in order to achieve a goal no matter how big or small. The more I progress on this journey the more I realize how important it is to be productive and use tools to help me! Calendar apps, weekly budgeting, and prioritization have become my best friends.
To be honest, speaking things into existence is the root of positive energy for me. Letting go of doubt, insecurities etc yield liberation and that type of energy is necessary for self actualization. You would be surprised how much you can achieve when you believe in yourself fearlessly. Also, surround yourself by people who are positive and are on same caliber as you. Recently I invited some new people in my network to an event I am hosting and at least a third of them said they were putting it on their calendar. Ironic how successful people and like minds embrace these productivity tools for even the simplest of tasks. Oddly enough I also have this weird habit of talking to myself or thinking out loud, it helps me channel that "inner voice" and put my desires out there in the universe. I have also grown stronger in my faith and spirituality since I embarked on this journey.
Hate to say it, but you have to look the part, walk the part, and talk the part. Your network is one of the most important pilars of success. People like people that inspire them whether intellectually, sensually, emotionally, mentally, etc. Using that insight and understanding the dynamics of human nature is the key to networking. And furthermore confidence is necessary to accomplish this. However, i am speaking on true confidence, Not fake, materialistic confidence. Knowing your purpose deep down and walking in that speaks volumes when you enter a room. That again is triggered by your energy and self actualization. So now were back to the beginning... being unapolegeticaly you :)
